Hardwoods can range from deep, warm shades to light, contemporary tones. There are plenty of variations between wood to make your flooring as unique and beautiful as your home's design.

People often think that hardwood flooring is only used in rustic or country designs, but nothing is further from the truth. Dark stains used on walnut are used to promote chrome and glass used in more modern design themes. Lighter color woods like maple are perfect for brighter rooms that come to life with modern lighting, settings and furniture. Hardwood can blend together the best elements of classical and modern designs.

We can provide different sized planks, accents, grains and finishes for all of our hardwood flooring. This allows you to have a greater latitude in design. Breathtaking mosaics can be created by using light and dark hardwoods that become a central design element of the room. Creating floor designs can take extra planning, but the visual impact can create an inspiring look for any room.

When is it Time to Replace Your Carpet?

Unfortunately, carpet is just not one of those items that gets better with age. Just like the upholstery, there is a time when all carpeting must go. Though you may have become sentimentally, and strangely, accustomed to that old shag fixture you have been looking at every day, you need to open your eyes to how bad it has gotten to be.

The carpet makes an enormous impact on the atmosphere of your home. When carpet needs to be replaced, one of the first things that are noticeable is spots and discoloration. It doesn’t’ matter how well you have cared for it, or have had it professionally cleaned. There is only so much that one can do to keep it looking nice. There is only so many cleanings that a poor carpet can bare. Eventually the grime, spots, and discolorations will catch up with it and make an unseemly impression.

Aged carpets also change in shape. They stretch and wrinkle up over time. The cushioning underneath will eventually flatten out. When you walk on it, you will feel like you are walking on a hard floor. You will see worn imprints in the common walk areas. With longer carpets, the material may become loose, and stick out in areas. It may become so bad you are resisting the urge to give it a trim with your scissors. The edges of the carpet will start to become unattached to the tacking in doorways. This situation may lead to a painful setback when walking around barefoot as the tacking is usually comprised of small nails sticking up from the floor.

When the carpet starts to smell, it is definitely time for it to go. A smelly carpet will give off an embarrassing musty and dirty smell. If you have pets, the smell of a carpet can turn putrid. Old carpets can become so smelly, that it does not matter how many air fresheners that you have in your home. Dishing out tons of money on carpet cleaners and perfumes to cover up the smell is just a waste of time. No air freshener in the world will illuminate the smell. Cleaning the carpet will likely just make it worse, as moisture will increase the risk of mildew.

When you feel that it's time to dump that old carpet, call us! We have an extensive showroom, contact us or stop by to speak to our knowledgeable sales staff.

Tips on Buying Hardwood Flooring

Solid Wood is a natural material made from high quality wood and strictly controlled origin that is placed on a flat and dry solid surface such as dry wood boards, OSB, plywood, etc. to create a beautiful, durable flood. It is very important that before installing the flooring that the room meets all the conditions for laying floor coverings: the humidity is fifty to sixty percent in the rooms where the floor is being laid and the moisture in the substrate is no more than a maximum of two percent. If the humidity is above the substrate, is not recommended you use wood flooring because as the moisture decreases, the coating appears on wet surfaces.

This material does tend to change color after long exposure to light. However, natural floor covering can be repaired several times and is easily processed by machine. It doesn't lose its natural properties, though, which is one reason why it is so affected by light. Also, this means it's the healthiest and most natural flooring. It's also easy to clean. A lacquered floor can be swept with a dust mop.

However, there is one downside to a hardwood floor: if a large amount of water is allowed to sit on it, the wood can be permanently and significantly damaged. It can also be scratched somewhat easily, so women are advised not to wear high heels on it, and those who wear cleats for playing sports should remove them before walking on the floor. Chair and table legs may need to have soft sliders placed on them. Despite this, this type of flooring is a popular choice among many people since it's more affordable than custom crafted wood floors.

This type of flooring is available in various colors and shades. The high quality options can be formatted in different mosaics. When purchasing wood flooring, you need to decide whether to hire a professional to install it or install it yourself. If you're installing the floor in a high-traffic area such as your kitchen or if you want an original mosaic pattern, it may be better to hire a professional.

If you're installing the floor yourself, budget out how much it will cost you for each step. Remember to estimate high-it's better to expect things to cost more so you don't suddenly find yourself without the money you need. Also over-estimate a little on how much flooring you need just in case something were to happen and several pieces get damaged.

When it comes to color, remember that darker shades tend to make a room look smaller. However, they can also hide scratches better. In high traffic areas, be sure to use a strong wood that has a high quality protective layer or varnish on it.

You also want to pick a shade of wood that works with the color of the walls and the furniture in the room. You will want to think about how everything in the room will look when it's finished. Make sure it's going to look like you want it to before you purchase anything.

When it's all done, you'll find that your house looks incredible elegant and natural. While wood flooring was once quite expensive, today it's affordable and easily installed.

Paved With Dreams

Our Tile selection is great, especially when you want to find tiles that fit your own preferences and tastes. Large, small, mosaic, smooth, rough, plain, colorful, or with a border…there are many different types of tiles!  So you’ll need to make some decisions before you select new tile for your bathroom, kitchen, or any other part of the home.  Of course, if you’re not that picky, you can pick the first tile you see, but few people will want to do that.

When choosing, be very careful to match other parts of your home. You don’t want to pick a tile that clashes with the wallpaper or paint, for example.  Kitchen tiles need to match the countertops or at least not clash with them.  You might also need to take into consideration the color of your appliances or fixtures.

Picking the wrong tiles or poor quality tiles means you may have to completely remove them, purchase new tiles, and pay to have them installed.  That’s why it’s so important to make an informed decision.  You also want to consider things like price, how easy they are to install (because you may have to hire someone), and what the average lifespan for that brand of tile is.

The absence of high quality tile can be seen through the cracks on the surface of the tile, which occur due to heavy loads on the floor. In addition, any unevenness on the surface can cause more cracking.  It’s difficult to get a perfectly flat floor, too, so some cracking is going to be inevitable.

Ceramic tiles from the middle price range, preparing the surface first, and speaking with experts regarding the installation guarantee quality and durability, and you’ll be very satisfied with your new tile floor.

Expensive tiles will certainly provide high quality, but going with these high priced options depends entirely on your needs and budget.  Even cheap tiles will look nice, but sometimes it seems like the expensive ones are just a bit better.  Before you make your final selection, be sure to take one more look at how the tile will fit in with the rest of the room.  Will the shape and the color really work?  You may be able to take a sample tile home with you and see how it looks.

Selecting the shape, color, and quality of your new ceramic tile all depends on what you like and how high-traffic the area will be.  Larger tiles will be more expensive, but you won’t need as many of them.  Smaller tiles may cost less, but you’ll need more and it may take longer to install them.  If you’re going with a tile that has a pattern to it, you may also have to look at how the pattern matches up and factor that into the number of tiles you need and how long it will take to install them.

Once you’ve got an idea of what your needs are and what kind of tiles you want, it really won’t be that difficult to decide which ones you want for your floor.  Just remember that you can always talk to someone at the store before making your final selection.  Be sure to get all your questions answered before you commit to buying.

Quality Carpet in Salinas

Carpets are an indispensable part of home decoration. Regular maintenance will prevent allergic reaction in people who have difficulties in breathing and keep the space itself and the floor area looking great.  Carpets come in rich forms, colors, patterns and material. Carpet should be selected based on its quality workmanship and materials, of course, and not by its appearance or color. There are many types of carpets, and each has its own characteristics. Today, it’s possible to choose between many different options. Although there are many choices of colors, shapes and designs, you need to pay attention to the unique construction, texture, and patterns that are the basic features of quality carpet in Salinas. There are modern and classic carpets, too.

Of course, the most prized carpets are sags that are handmade because for the time it takes to make.  Some take up to two years. In Iran, for example, sags are the most valuable things your family may own, and they are passed down from generation to generation.

The materials used in making carpets vary, but the most usual are wool, cotton and silk, although more modern materials like nylon and polyester are also used. In the modern world today, the quality of your carpet no longer bears any spiritual or religious characteristics; instead, carpets are just intended to beautify the area.  Since children often spend a lot of time playing on the floor, you want to be sure they have a soft, protected area on which to do so.

The rich variety of hand or machine made carpets is made from both natural of artificial materials.  There’s also a difference in the knotting or weaving.  You can easily opt for a suitable floor covering for your home or commercial space.  Finding the best quality isn’t too difficult, especially if you shop around.

It is widely known that the heating in a home is determined by the type of flooring. Therefore, when planning your home, don’t forget the floors. Today`s carpets come in many interesting shapes, models, samples, quality, and price range so you’re sure to find  flooring that fits your home.

The main advantage of carpets includes high quality, durability, and unparalleled comfort.  If you chose, do not forget that this type of surface requires constant cleaning and routine maintenance.  Be ready to vacuum your carpets often, especially if you have children or pets.

When it comes to installing carpets, it’s best to leave it to the professionals.  This will actually save you time, especially if you haven’t installed carpet before. Another popular choice is to install the carpet yourself.  Measure the amount of surface you want to carpet, go to the carpet store, and ask them to cut a piece of carpet the correct size with borders.

General Tips to Keep Your Flooring in Great Shape

Your floor will give you so much satisfaction in the years to come, but only if you keep it in great shape. Here are a few tips - common-sense precautions that will make your relationship with any flooring a long and happy one.
Keep Doormats at Every Door

Use quality doormats outside each entrance to your home to prevent dirt, sand, grit and other substances such as oil, asphalt and driveway sealer from being tracked onto your floor. To minimize potential staining from asphalt tracking, we suggest you use a latex-based driveway sealer.
Take Special Precautions When Moving Heavy Objects

Use a dolly with wide-base air tires when moving heavy appliances or furniture. But first, put down a clean sheet of quarter-inch plywood, masonite, or similar hardboard, to protect the floor. Never try to slide or roll heavy objects across the floor without adequate protection. Some objects may be too heavy to be moved across a hard surface floor under any circumstances.
Close Curtains or Blinds

Close your curtains or blinds where extreme sunlight hits the floor. A combination of heat and sunlight causes most solid surface flooring to fade or discolor.
Support Furniture with Floor Protectors

For increased crush and dent resistance, support furniture with wide-bearing, non-staining floor protectors or wide-bearing leg bases/rollers. As a general rule of thumb, the heavier the item, the wider the floor protector should be. Protectors should be at least one inch in diameter, made of non-pigmented, hard plastic and rest flat on the floor. Non-staining felt protectors are acceptable. Barrel-type casters with a minimum 3/4" flat surface width or flat glides are best for moveable furniture. If you choose to use metal protectors, make sure they are rustproof. Replace your narrow-dome furniture rests with wide-bearing ones.
Routinely Clean Your Floor

Routine care and maintenance are essential to maximizing the beauty and life of your flooring. Over time, normal foot traffic and soiling will cause a change in the flooring's appearance. For hard surfaces, vacuum (without a beater-bar), dust mop or sweep the floor on a daily or weekly basis to minimize abrasive grit and dirt. In very sandy areas or at the beach, you may want to vacuum or sweep more frequently. When using a liquid cleaner, be sure to dry it or rinse it thoroughly to avoid a film. Read and follow the manufacturer's directions for care, cleaning and recommended products. Caution: Hard surface floors can be slippery when wet. Use extreme caution when walking on a wet floor.
Blot Up Spills and Spots Immediately

The best cure for a spill is a fast response. Blot and clean spills and spots immediately to prevent staining. Begin at the outer edge and work toward the center to prevent the spill from spreading. Caution: Hard surface floors can be slippery when wet. Use extreme caution when walking on a wet floor.

It’s personal service that follows every detail of the project and superior products to meet every style and need. We follow trends and technology, but most importantly, we stay in tune with our clients and what they need. That’s the only way we know how to do business.

Over our 30 years in business, we’ve come to realize that the most important thing we can do for our client is make their selection and installation process as painless as possible.

It can be overwhelming when you have over 15,000 sq. ft. of flooring material in stock to choose from. That’s why our selection process is designed to ease the stress of choosing. From there, we place the order, schedule installation and ensure that every detail is met, including follow up for any finishing touches that might be necessary.

We also specialize in insurance replacement. For over 21 years our affiliation with Flooring America Cooperative has allowed us to assist numerous clients in the San Benito, Monterey, Santa Cruz and southern Santa Clara counties with their flooring needs associated with insurance claims.
Recycling

Because we strive to be responsible contributors to our community and the protection of our environment, we established a program designed to recycle about 75-80 percent of the post consumer waste created from reflooring. Our 53 foot trailer takes the waste from our projects to Los Angeles to a company called L.A. Fiber where they grind down the materials. The shredded material is then turned into commercial pad, so there’s no waste. It’s a process we consider essential to the services we provide.
